PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a margin region on a ribbon film cannot be reduced owing to limitations on arrangement, and a positional relation between a thermal head and a mark detecting sensor is also limited. SOLUTION: A distance from the head of each transfer material region to each starting mark is made L1 (≥0), and a distance from a transfer position of the thermal head to a detecting position of the starting mark is made L2 (>0). In this case, during execution of printing with the use of the ribbon film in which the transfer material region and the starting mark are arranged to satisfy L1<L2, it is monitored that the starting mark passes the detection position. When the starting mark is detected, a conveyance amount of the ribbon film conveyed from the time point to a time point of the printing end of the transfer material region corresponding to the starting mark is obtained. The ribbon film is sent forward by a value with this conveyance amount subtracted from a sum of an unprinted region length and a margin region length of the transfer material region decided on the standard of the ribbon film, whereby the head of a next transfer material region is positioned at a printing start position.
