PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element drive circuit and an optical module capable of enough reducing reflection waves from a light emitting element even if ambient temperature is changed, and of preventing the deterioration of a modulation current waveform. SOLUTION: The light emitting element drive circuit 3 comprises a modulation current supply 4 for supplying a modulation current Im<SB>1</SB>to a laser diode 2, a reflection absorber 5 for imparting impedance between a connection line 8 connecting the laser diode 2 and the modulation current supply 4 and a constant potential line Vcc, and a temperature sensor 7 for generating a temperature signal S<SB>T</SB>responsive to ambient temperature. The reflection absorber 5 comprises a diode 15 connected between the connection line and the constant potential line Vcc; and control means (current source 16, adjustment part 19, and current source drive part 20) for controlling the impedance of the diode 15 by controlling the amount of the current I of the diode 15, on the basis of the temperature signal S<SB>T</SB>from the temperature sensor 7.
