The mechanism (2), as a function of parameters of the internal-combustion engine (1), adapts a lubricating oil quantity during the lubricating oil supply to a required characteristic (UC) for the internal-combustion engine. As a parameter for the adjustment, the number of revolutions (n) of the internal-combustion engine is provided for the lubricating oil quantity. An independent claim is included for a method.
