An organic EL(ElectroLuminescence) display and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to have uniform image quality by shielding external light input to a thin film transistor to considerably reduce a leakage current of the transistor. In an organic EL display, a transparent substrate(21) has a light emitting region and a non-light emitting region. The light emitting region and the non-light emitting region have different steps. A light shielding layer(41) is formed on a transparent substrate(21) of the non-light emitting region. A thin film transistor is formed on the light shielding layer(41). A first electrode(29) is formed on the transparent substrate(21) of the light emitting region. The first electrode(29) is electrically connected to the thin film transistor. An organic EL layer is formed on the first electrode(29). A second electrode(36) is formed on the organic EL layer. |
