PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an upper rail mounting structure of a sliding door type automobile improving durability and reliability by holding a favorable getting-on-and-off property without decreasing height of a sliding door opening part, reducing mandays by improving mounting precision of an upper rail and simplifying welding work and reducing welding stress and its assembling method. SOLUTION: This upper rail mounting part of the sliding door type automobile is constituted by connecting the upper rail mounting part 10 on which the upper rail 8 to guide a sliding door to a side body outer panel 4 and a side body inner panel 5, an upper cover 7 constituting an upper part of the upper rail mounting part 10 and a lower cover 6 constituting a lower part are separately manufactured and the upper cover 7 is welded and connected to the side body outer panel 5 by fixing the upper rail 8 on a lower surface of the upper cover 7 before connecting the side body outer panel 4 and the side body inner panel 5 to each other.
