The invention relates to a bacterial culture medium for at least one strain to be cultivated, comprising, in a minimum inorganic medium, at least one gentisate precursor and/ or gentisate or the derivatives thereof, as a carbon and energy source. The invention also relates to methods for enriching a bacterial strain or isolating one such strain in one such medium, and to the association of the gentisate or the derivatives thereof and/or at least one gentisate precursor or the derivatives thereof, especially 3-hydroxybenzoate, as a carbon and energy source, with at least one inhibitor, for the bacterial culture of at least one strain to be cultivated, said inhibitor acting on the growth of the different bacteria of the bacterial strain to be cultivated and assimilating said carbon and energy source. The invention further relates to the use of gentisate or the derivatives thereof and/or at least one gentisate precursor or the derivatives thereof, especially 3-hydroxybenzoate, as a carbon and energy source, in inhibiting conditions, for the bacterial culture of at least one strain to be cultivated, said conditions acting on the growth of the bacteria that are different from the bacterial strain to be cultivated and assimilate the carbon and energy source.
