PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle travel control device for preventing complication of a driving operation of a driver by appropriately performing gear shift during fixed speed travel control. SOLUTION: When a state comes in which an engine brake functions during fixed speed travel control, the driver performs a control operation if the engine brake force at this time cannot satisfy a demand braking/driving force Fct on the fixed speed travel control side selected by an arbitration section 18. An AI shift control section 20, when the maximum engine brake force does not reach the level of the selected braking/driving force Fst, can increase the engine brake force by downshift to maintain the braking/driving force. Thus, a target vehicle speed Vct can be maintained to prevent complication of the brake operation or the like by the driver.
