MOVING PICTURE DECODING APPARATUS AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving picture decoding apparatus and method capable of reducing deterioration in a decoded image by a low resolution decoder and suppressing increase in a required memory capacity.

SOLUTION: A reduction means 6 reduces a decoded image and stores the reduced image to a storage means 10. An error information generating means 7 generates error information between the decoded image after the reduction and the decoded image before the reduction. A compression means 8 compresses the error information and stores the compressed information to the storage means 10, and an expansion means 9 restores the compressed error information stored in the storage means 10. A prediction image generating means 5 generates a prediction image on the basis of the decoded image after the reduction and the error information after the restoration.
