PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of toner scattering in transfer and the partial deficiency of toner of a toner image transferred on an intermediate transfer belt, in an image forming apparatus which conducts primary transfer of the toner image formed on an image carrier to the intermediate transfer belt so as to obtain a recorded image. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, when the range between the most upstream side position X and most downstream side position Y of the part of an intermediate transfer belt 4, coming into contact with an image carrier 3Y in the moving direction of the intermediate transfer belt is, defined as a contact area N, a transfer blade 13 is abutted against the back surface part of the intermediate transfer belt 4 in the contact area N. In addition, the image forming apparatus is provided with a downstream side static eliminating blade 24, which is abutted against the back surface part of the intermediate transfer belt 4 on the side downstream from a position, where the transfer blade 13 is abutted against the intermediate transfer belt 4, in its moving direction and upstream from the most downstream side position Y in the moving direction of the intermediate transfer belt, and to which a voltage having the same polarity as the normal charge polarity of toner is applied. A vibration applying means 30 for vibrating the transfer blade 13 is provided, to facilitate separation of the toner between the image carrier 3Y and the intermediate transfer belt 4 from the image carrier.
