In one form, the tool comprises an arm carrying a spool, a roll R of tape T, and a casing B housing a generator unit and having its base E shaped to form an electrode. A lead L may be taken from the casing to the conducting portion W of the cable. Alternatively, where a metallic braiding is provided underneath a thermoplastic sheath p, the lead L may be connected to the braiding, or a second electrode in the form of a wheel or a strip may be provided diametrically opposite to the electrode E. In yet another modification, the curved electrode E may be replaced by three or more rollers riding on the outer surface of the cable.</p> |
