PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new tape measure equipped with a locking device which stably automatically locks an unwound measurement tape and smoothly releases locking with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This tape measure 1 comprises the locking device 7 consisting of a lock lever 8 and an integrally connected lock release operation button 9. The lock lever 8 is oscillatingly supported around a pivot 11 in parallel with a winding shaft 10 in a measurement tape deliver part 2b of a body case 2 and is energized in the winding direction of a normal measurement tape 3 by an elastic member 11 interposed between the lock lever 8 and the body case 2. When delivering the measurement tape 3, the measurement tape 3 slides and contacts a tip action part 8a of the lock lever 8 and its delivering is permitted. When a deliver force is no longer added after delivering of the measurement tape 3, the lock lever 8 oscillates in the winding direction by an energizing force of the elastic member 11 and fastens and locks the measurement tape 3 between the tip action part 8a of the lock lever 8 and an internal wall part 2c of the body case 2.
