PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control both the thickness and quality of made ice in an ice making drum. SOLUTION: A drum type ice making machine comprises the ice making drum 14 rotated around a horizontal axis in a state of being partially submerged in ice making water W stored in an ice making tank 12, and forms ice C on the outer surface of the drum by supplying a refrigerant from a refrigerating system into the ice making drum 14 for cooling, and rotating the ice making drum 14. The submerged region of the ice making drum 14 into the ice making water W is controlled by setting the water level of the ice making water W stored in the ice making tank 12.
