PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily discriminate respective machine types registered in an operating system when a general purpose device driver which is adaptive to a plurality of types of peripheral devices is employed. SOLUTION: The device driver operates on an operating system 11 acquiring a device name from a peripheral device when the peripheral device is connected and actuating a device driver corresponding to the acquired device name, and can control a plurality of types of devices. The device driver once receiving connection information on a device that the device driver itself is adaptive to from the operating system acquires a second device name through a different acquisition path from the operating system, and when the acquired second device name is not registered in the operating system, the device driver makes a computer perform processing for registering the device in the operating system by using the second device name.
