COATING LIQUID FOR COATING RETARDATION FILM, RETARDATION FILM AND COMPOSITE POLARIZING PLATE USING THE COATING LIQUID, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THEM AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid which contains an organic modified clay complex, is able to reduce haze value when formed for a coating retardation film and to maintain a high contrast ratio of a liquid crystal display device, to form the retardation film and a composite polarizing plate and to apply the composite polarizing plate to the liquid crystal device.

SOLUTION: This invention provides the coating liquid for coating the retardation film containing the organic modified clay complex and a binder resin in an organic solvent and having moisture content in a range from 0.15 to 0.35% by weight as measured with a Karl Fischer moisture meter. The retardation film 15 is formed from the coating liquid for coating the retardation film by forming a composition obtained by removing the organic solvent and water from the coating liquid into a film. The composite polarizing plate 10 is prepared by laminating the polarizing plate 11, an adhesive layer 12 and the retardation film 15 in this order. The liquid crystal display device is produced by disposing this composite polarizing plate at one surface of a liquid crystal cell and another retardation film and the polarizing plate on another surface of the liquid crystal cell.
