A method for determining a searcher window size according to a sector radius in a mobile communication system is provided to prevent the power of a base station modem from being wasted, and improve the overall performance of a mobile communication system by reducing the probability that a radio signal is erroneously searched. When a base station modem is initialized, a searcher window size controller checks the radius of each sector(S20,S21). A searcher window size of the base station modem is determined according to the checked radius of each sector and transfers the determination result(S22). The base station modem receives the determined searcher window size and searches a radio signal received from a mobile terminal through the searcher(S23). When the mobile terminal in an arbitrary sector of the base station performs softer handoff, the searcher window size controller compares a searcher window size of the currently moved sector with that of a previous sector, and when the mobile terminal has been moved to a sector having a different radius, the searcher window size set in the searcher of the base station modem is changed(S24-S27). |
