PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly detect abnormality of air intake system components. SOLUTION: The air intake system abnormality detecting apparatus is equipped with a knock detection device 41 for detecting the value of a parameter concerning knocking and an operation parameter detection device for detecting the value of an operation parameter other than the parameter concerning knocking. The apparatus determines that the air intake components of the internal combustion engine have abnormality when a difference between the value of the parameter concerning knocking detected by the knock detection device and the value of the parameter concerning initial or past knocking in an engine operation state identical or similar to a present engine operation stat estimated on the basis of the value of the operation parameter detected by the operation parameter detection device is not smaller than a predetermined value.
