A perpendicular magnetic head is provided to maintain a magnetization direction of a magnetic domain of a soft magnetic layer, in a cross track direction, without influencing recording properties of a magnetic domain of a recording layer, thereby preventing bad influence from being exerted on the magnetization direction of the recording layer. A perpendicular magnetic head comprises a recording head(200). The recording head(200) is composed of a main pole(P1) for recording information by applying a magnetic field to a recording layer(23) and a return pole(P2) for connecting with the main pole(P1) and where a section thereof is isolated from the main pole(P1) on an ABS(Air Bearing Surface) adjacent to the recording layer(23). Permanent magnets(202a,202b) are formed on at least one side of the recording head(200).
