PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily implement the use of a new function/the construction of a new system at a low cost as a user desires. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus comprising a reader 1 for reading a document to obtain electronic image data; a plotter 2 for printing the image data on a recording sheet; a first memory 8 for accumulating the image data and attached information of the image data; and a CPU 10 for controlling said respective means, a first image data processing section 15 is provided for executing prescribed processing for the image data, the first image data processing section being connected to a first PCI bus B1 that is connected to the CPU 10 via a bus control circuit section 7. In that case, a second image data processing section 50 is added, the second image data processing section functioning differently from the first image data processing section 15, or the first image data processing section can be replaced with a functionally expanded third image data processing section 70.
