PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary indexing device of a simple structure capable of surely operated as a stop position of a rotating shaft is not displaced even when considerable external force is applied to the rotating shaft. SOLUTION: First and second racks 39, 40 of this rotary indexing device are mounted so that both of the first and second racks 39, 40 are engaged with a pinion 37 when a rack frame 38 is located at a neutral position, the first rack and the pinion are completely engaged with each other, and the pinion and the second rack are disengaged when the rack frame is deflected with a transverse frame 30 to one side from the neutral position by a first fluid cylinder mechanism, and the second rack and the pinion are completely engaged with each other, and the pinion and the first rack are disengaged when the rack frame is deflected to the other side from the neutral position. The rotating shaft 5 is divisionally rotated by a prescribed angle by reciprocating the rack frame by a second fluid cylinder while allowing the first and second racks are to be alternately engaged with the pinion by the first fluid cylinder mechanism, and the rotating shaft is positioned and fixed by a stopper mechanism 6 every prescribed rotating angle.
