PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bismuth-based glass which can be used for sealing without being crystallized even when it is tentatively fired at a temperature higher than the sealing temperature and melted stably for a long period of time by using a material such as platinum or platinum-rhodium; a sealing composition comprising the glass; and a sealing paste. SOLUTION: The sealing paste is obtained by mixing a refractory ceramic filler and vehicle with a powder of low melting glass containing substantially no lead, thallium, cadmium and vanadium and containing, by mass, 70-90% Bi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 5-15% ZnO, 2-8% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0.1-5% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0.01-2% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 0.01-5% CeO<SB>2</SB>, 0.01-5% CuO, 0.01-0.2% Fe<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, and 0.05-5% of CuO+Fe<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, wherein the total content of alkali metal oxides, such as Li<SB>2</SB>O, Na<SB>2</SB>O or K<SB>2</SB>O, and alkaline earth metal oxides, such as MgO, CaO, BaO or SrO, is <0.1%.
