PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the height of a mechanism by compactly disposing a camshaft, a rocker cam, and a rocker arm and reduce the tapered angle of a tapered part by efficiently transmitting the displacement amount of a tapered cam to the rocker arm. SOLUTION: The tapered cam 14 is formed on the camshaft 4, a tapered roller 18 is supported on the rocker cam 5, and a roller 10 is installed on the rocker arm 3. The tapered cam 14 and the tapered roller 18 are relatively moved in the axial direction of the camshaft 4 by an actuator 24. The rocker arm 3 is disposed at a low position on the cylinder head 2 side, the rocker cam 5 is disposed at a high position above the rocker arm 3, and the camshaft 4 is disposed at a side on the lateral side of the rocker cam 5. The tapered roller 18 is engaged with the tapered cam 14 on the inside of a triangle connecting, to each other, the rotating center of the tapered cam 14, the rocking center of the rocker cam 5, and the rotating center of the roller 10.
