PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve combustion stability in a very low temperature state by valve overlapping control, and thereby to improve startability at the very low temperature. SOLUTION: In the very low temperature state at the time of warming up, valve overlapping is set to be plus lapping, and thereby remaining gas in a combustion chamber is increased, and vaporization of fuel is promoted with the usage of heat energy of the remaining gas, and thus, combustion stability is improved. When the state is not the very low temperature state, valve overlapping is set to be minus lapping, and the remaining gas is reduced, and thereby the air-fuel mixture concentration in the combustion chamber is enhanced, and combustion stability of the engine is secured.
