PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a chemical cost required for deodorization by reducing the consumed amount of expensive pyrithione compound required for the deodorization. SOLUTION: The rotting of an offensive odor source is inhibited to prevent the generation of malodorous gas by bringing the pyrithione compound and glyoxylic acid as deodorants into contact with the offensive odor source based on a finding that glyoxylic acid, a low-cost chemical, significantly increases the rot inhibiting function of the pyrithione compound.
