<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnetic powder capable of constituting a high storage density medium of low noise, high output and high C/N suitable for a GMR head and the like, by preventing sintering in a reduction process. <P>SOLUTION: The above subject is attained by iron system magnetic powder containing the total precious metals of 0.01-10% by an atomic ratio to Fe, especially by adopting the magnetic powder of Fe<SB>16</SB>N<SB>2</SB>as a main body. Such magnetic powder is manufactured through a process where iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide is returned including the total precious metals of 0.01-10% by an atomic ratio to Fe.
