The chuck 10 for use with a manual or powered driver has a rotatable drive shaft and includes a body 12 having a nose section 30 and a tail section 32. The tail section is configured to rotate with the drive shaft and the nose section includes an axial bore 34. A plurality of jaws 26 is movably disposed with respect to the body and in communication with the axial bore. A first sleeve 18 is rotatably mounted to the body in operative communication with the jaws so that rotation of the sleeve moves the jaws either toward or away from a longitudinal centre axis 40 of the axial bore. A second sleeve is rotatably mounted to the body and is movable between a first position in which the second sleeve is rotatably fixed to the body and a second position in which the second sleeve is rotatable about the body. The second sleeve moves in a direction transverse to the longitudinal centre axis when moving between the first position and the second position. An alternative chuck additionally includes a nut in communication with the jaws and two sets of locking teeth. |
