<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly engage/disengage, by a space-saved simple mechanism, the drive device of a main body and the actuating part of an actuating unit attachable/detachable to/from the main body. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes the drive device 90 disposed in the main body 2, and a transfer unit 40 attachable/detachable to/from the main body 2. The actuating part 60 of the transfer unit 40 includes a mechanism that separates a primary transfer roller 45 from the intermediate transfer belt 41, and is driven by the drive device 90. The drive gear 93 of the drive device 90 has play for a predetermined angle between a drive shaft 92 and the drive gear 93 itself in the direction of rotation of the drive shaft 92. The drive gear 93 drives the actuating part 60 by engaging the follower gear 62 of the actuating part 60 when the transfer unit 40 is accommodated in the main body 2. After the actuating part 60 has finished driving, the drive device 90 rotates the drive shaft 92 in a reverse direction only by the predetermined angle, thereby idly rotating the drive gear 93 by only the predetermined angle when the transfer unit 40 is detached from the main body 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
