PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus particularly suited for securities handled at financial institutions or the like, while avoiding the apparatus from becoming large or being complicated to avoid cost increase. SOLUTION: Both the rear end of a sheet in a hopper (first storage part)1 and the front ends of sheets in paper discharge trays (second storage part) 20a, 20b after reading image information are simultaneously regulated by only one movable stopper (movable regulating member). For example, when storage space in the hopper 1 is increased by the operation of pulling out the movable stopper 1 so as to insert a relatively large-sized bill or the like in the hopper 1, a space large enough to output and store the bill whose image information has been read is naturally secured in either of the paper discharge trays 20a, 20b.
