A transmitter of multicarrier communication system capable of reducing the affection of interference between symbols constituting information frames; preventing occurrence of burst-like errors; improving the communication error rate characteristic; and achieving a high communication throughput. In this transmitter, transport data, which has been preprocessed, is outputted to an S/P converting part (303) for each of transport symbols. A wavelet pattern designating part (308) outputs sequentially updated mapping patterns to the S/P converting part (303) and to a wavelet inverse-transforming part (304). In response to these mapping patterns, the S/P converting part (303) maps the transport symbols to a time-frequency two-dimensional table (SL1-SLM), and then the wavelet inverse-transforming part (304) subjects the transport symbols to WPM modulation and outputs the WPM modulated transport symbols to a D/A converting part (305). The signal, which has been subjected to an analog conversion process by the D/A converting part (305), is externally transmitted via an RF part (306) and an antenna (307).
