PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting wire material with a high degree of orientation of the (Bi, Pb)2223 crystal and a high critical current, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the superconducting wire material including (Bi, Pb)2233 comprises the steps of: filling a metallic sheath with a raw material powder; forming a wire material by subjecting the metallic sheath filled with the raw material powder to plastic working; and heat-treating the wire material. The raw material powder includes Bi2212 as the superconducting phase, and a Pb-containing compound in the non-superconducting phase of the raw material powder is Ca<SB>2</SB>PbO<SB>4</SB>.
