A method and an apparatus for automatically switching on/off power of a mobile communication terminal are provided to enable an RFID to receive an intrinsic frequency signal corresponding to an intrinsic frequency from a base station and switch on the power of the mobile communication terminal if the current time of the mobile communication terminal is consistent with the termination time of the schedule, thereby freely setting a state of the power. In a mobile communication terminal including an RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) tag unit having an intrinsic frequency, a method for switching on/off power of the mobile communication terminal according to a schedule set by a user comprises the following steps of: setting and storing the schedule inputted through a key input unit from the user of the mobile communication terminal(S302); switching off the power of the mobile communication terminal if current time of the mobile communication terminal is consistent with start time of the schedule(S304,S312); and enabling the RFID tag unit to receive an intrinsic frequency signal corresponding to the intrinsic frequency from a base station and switch on the power of the mobile communication terminal if the current time of the mobile communication terminal is consistent with termination time of the schedule(S314,S316).
