<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous silicon carbide-based formed body having a pore diameter, porosity and the like which are controlled according to various specifications and uses without the need for a special process step, a special additive or the like, and to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The porous silicon carbide-based formed body whose pores are controlled is manufactured by forming a layer comprising SiCO on the surface of the silicon carbide-based porous formed body.
