<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate a feed forward term used for drive control of a high pressure fuel pump to be an appropriate value of a value intended for previously supplying the corresponding amount of fuel to the fuel amount to be injected from a fuel injection valve. <P>SOLUTION: Depending on the amount of a target fuel pressure PO, the work load of the high pressure fuel pump 4 required for controlling the actual fuel pressure toward the target fuel pressure PO changes, and correspondingly, the appropriate value as the value having the above intention of a feed forward term FF changes. Taking this into consideration, upon calculating the feed forward term FF, not only an indication value Q and the engine speed are considered, but the target fuel pressure PO is also considered.
