摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the cost of a device for measuring the quantity of metabolism by evaluating the exhalation collected in a bag. SOLUTION: The device comprises a container a, an air pump d, a carbon dioxide absorbing column b, an oxygen absorbing column c and a pressure gauge e as main component elements as indicated in the figure. The container a is replaced by the exhalation collected in a flexible bag f, and carbon dioxide is absorbed by the circulation of exhalation between the container a and the carbon dioxide absorbing column b. The carbon dioxide concentration is measured from the value of the reduction of pressure of carbon dioxide. Next, oxygen is absorbed by the circulation of exhalation between the container a and the oxygen absorbing column c, and the oxygen concentration is measured from the value of the reduction of pressure of oxygen. The method of measuring the carbon dioxide concentration and the oxygen concentration in this way is devised. The precision in the measurement is improved to the level usable in this purpose by satisfying the following three conditions: (1) the pressure inside the container a, the column b and the column c, and the steam pressure are approximately equal to each other; (2) liquid water is always present in the container a during the measurement; and (3) the pressure is measured by a measuring system for measuring the pressure difference between the container a and a container h by connecting the container h in which water kept at the same temperature as the container a is always present to correct the temperature change while oxygen is absorbed.
