The device has an airbag module (6) fixed on a plate (4), and a covering flap (8) for covering the airbag module. Balls, cavity (14) and clamp (24) guide the flap, with respect to the plate, between a closed position and an open position. A rod (16), a clamp (20) and a maintaining unit maintain the flap in the closed position until pressure is exerted between the flap and plate, and releases the flap for permitting the rotation of the flap towards the open position when the pressure exerted between the flap and plate is greater than threshold. An independent claim is also included for a seat for a motor vehicle.
