<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal, capable of showing to a user relation between function keys and function display indicating the function assigned to the keys, and to provide a method and program for controlling the portable terminal. <P>SOLUTION: When the portable terminal is powered on, respective function keys on an operation part 12 are illuminated with prescribed colors by an illumination part 14. A display part 10 displays function display, corresponding to the each function key with the same background color as the illumination color for the function key. Even when functions assigned to the function key are changed, only the character display indicating the content of the function is changed, without changing the background color of the function display displayed on the display part 10.
