COLLECTION AND EDITING SYSTEM FOR SPEECH DATA

A system for generating a sound track of digitally encoded speech from analog waveform transduced from spoken words. Speech in the form of an analog waveform is converted phrase by phrase into digital linear predictive code (19). An interactive personal computer based system is used to identify each converted phrase and store the phrases on a plurality of floppy disks during a collection operation (21). When the phrases have been collected, single disks can be operated on by another application program performing an editing function (3). Detailed editing allows the system to locate and change any parameter in any frame of a phrase thereby providing a powerful modification operation. In addition, the editing operation includes means which allow the review of frame and field parameters rapidly for automatic scanning of a phrase to find errors. After a frame of a phrase has been modified it can be reinserted in the phrase and another tested. The invention further provides means for selecting certain phrases from the total phrase storage and means for storing the selected results on floppy disks (25). Means for rearranging the selected phrases in the order desired for a sound track are additionally provided. From the selected phrases, a sound track is formed by concatenating all the selected phrases (9).
