PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of attaining large recording capacity, free from a winding form defect and output reduction due to generation of a radial pattern, free from generation of fine scraped powder in high speed running, having improved clogging of a magnetic head and dropout, having satisfactory running durability and electromagnetic transducing characteristics and advantageously used especially for recording computer data. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer 93 containing at least ferromagnetic powder and a binder on one surface of a supporting body 91 and a back layer 94 on the other surface and obtained by cutting a long and wide magnetic recording medium raw sheet in a prescribed shape, a projecting part of the magnetic layer exceeding the horizontal surface of the surface of the magnetic layer does not exist at the edge part of a cut surface of the magnetic recording medium.
