PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet treatment device capable of preventing a sheet P from being slipped down or hooked by a sheet discharge port 36 during the occurrence of an accident associated with excessive loading and during the returning operation associated with the loaded weight alarm processing. SOLUTION: The sheet treatment device has a drainboard shutter 34 which is supported movably to a sheet discharge port 36. When an abnormality occurs in the elevating/lowering operation of a stack tray 18, the drainboard shutter 34 is moved to the sheet discharge port 36, and the stack tray 18 is elevated/lowered vertically by 100 mm in a trial manner. When the elevating/lowering operation is confirmed to be normal, the stack tray 18 is moved to the home position, and the drainboard shutter 34 is retracted from the sheet discharge port 36.
