Preparation of a mixture of substituted organobismuth compound comprises mixing Grignard reagent with different alkyl groups and adding the mixture to a solution of bismuthtrichloride or bismuthtribromide. Preparation of a mixture of substituted organobismuth compound of formula Bi(R)(R1>)2 and/or Bi(R)(R1>)(R 2>) comprises mixing Grignard reagent with different alkyl groups and adding the mixture to a solution of bismuthtrichloride or bismuthtribromide. R, R1> and R2>1-10C alkyl group, where all the three alkyl groups are not same.
