The invention relates to an airbag for a vehicle passenger restraint system, said airbag comprising at least one airbag chamber that can be filled with gas and comprises at least one outflow device by which means the gas can flow out of the airbag chamber. In a first embodiment, the outflow device comprises an outflow opening (11) which is formed in a main layer (10) of the wall of the airbag chamber (1), an additional wear-resistant layer (30) that covers the outflow opening (11) on the outer side of the main layer (10), and an intermediate layer (21) by which means the additional layer (30) is connected to the main layer (10), at least partially on the periphery thereof. In another form of embodiment, a snorkel valve, a pinch valve and a deployment-controlled rebound strap are used to carry out and control the outflow device.
