<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide light source equipment for an endoscope which regulates the amount of illumination light in accordance with the amount of illumination light permitted in a scope, allows a user to use a scope safely even when the amount of illumination light necessary for the scope is unknown, and reduces the effect of leakage of illumination light when a scope is not connected. <P>SOLUTION: The light source equipment radiates illumination light onto a light guide. The light source equipment has a plurality of diaphragm apertures having different aperture ratios or transmittance, a diaphragm means for setting one of the diaphragm apertures selectively, a reading means for reading information about limitations of the amount of illumination light from a memory means of a connected scope, and a control means for selecting the aperture ratio or transmittance of the diaphragm means in accordance with the information from the reading means and for controlling the diaphragm means not to set such a diaphragm aperture having an aperture ratio or a transmittance exceeding the selected aperture ratio or transmittance. When the information about the limitations of the amount of the illumination light cannot be read from the memory means, the control means selects an aperture ratio or a transmittance lower than the maximum aperture ratio or the maximum transmittance of the diaphragm means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
