An apparatus 1 comprises a switch 2 operable to output a first signal, the switch comprises a first contact 3a disposed at a first contact position, a second contact 3b disposed at a second contact position, and an input element mounted for pivoting about a pivot axis 'I' between first and second input element positions associated with the first and second contact positions. The switch comprises a contact assembly 2a operable to communicate with the first and second contacts. The apparatus further comprises an actuator 6 in communication with the contact assembly. the actuator being operable to provide a processor controlled force to the contact assembly such that the processor controlled force displaces the contact assembly. Preferably, the actuator comprises an electro-mechanical actuator selected from a group consisting of voice coil actuators, piezo-electric actuators, electro-active polymer actuators, eccentric mass actuators, moving magnet actuators, and resistive actuators. Other products and processes for providing haptic feedback are also described. For example, one such product includes a rocker switch and an actuator in communication with the rocker switch where the rocker switch is operable to output a first signal and the actuator is operable to provide haptic feedback associated with the first signal.
