A local information service system using an MMS(Multimedia Messaging Service) and a method thereof are provided to enable a user of a mobile communication terminal to receive local information and map information related to a particular region that the user wants to retrieve, from an LBS(Location Based Service) system and a local information management system, thus the user can obtain exact information more conveniently. A mobile communication terminal(110) receives a local name, and displays map information and local information related to a display window. An MMSC(MMS Center)(130) receives the local name inputted to the terminal(110), and transmits the local information and the map information corresponding to the local name to the terminal(110). An LBS system(150) receives the local name through the MMSC(130), and transmits the map information on the inputted local name to the MMSC(130). A local information management system(170) receives the local name through the MMSC(130), and transmits the local information on the inputted local name to the MMSC(130).
