A protection method for an optical pickup actuator, a protection circuit therefor, and a recording medium therefor are provided to allow a user to control an excessive time and the quantity of an excessive current to prevent the excessive current from flowing on a coil of the optical pickup actuator during the excessive time. An abnormal control signal is generated by using signals used for controlling focusing and tracking(S1). It is judged whether the normal focusing and tracking control of an optical pickup actuator is performed by using the abnormal control signal(S31,S32). A protection indication signal indicating that the optical pickup actuator is protected is generated(S33).
