<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for a printer for controlling such that inks of different colors are uniformly consumed, and a program. <P>SOLUTION: A printing driver 66 for controlling a printer 1 designates a printing color for printing, by four colors of inks provided on the printer 1, a printing image having a plurality of regions formed by an application 65. The printing driver 66 designates a designation region in which a region color in stead of the printing color can be assigned in the plurality of regions. The printing driver 66 grasps a residual amount of each ink and designates ink colors as the region color to be assigned to the designation region depending on the residual amounts of four colors of inks such that the color of the ink of which the residual amount is smaller is designated at a lower priority.
