PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a time to take when performing zoom adjustment automatically so that a projected image is in matching with a region to be projected on a body to be projected (for example, screen), and to control the degradation of image quality in the case of a keystone distortion compensation performed after that. SOLUTION: Positions of four corners of the region to be projected and positions of four corners of the projection image on an image imaged by a camera are detected. In case where the projection image needs to be magnified a zoom adjustment is carried out to magnify so that it may become a bit larger than the proper size, while in case where the projection image needs to be reduced the zoom adjustment is not carried out when the necessary reduction is very small but the zoom adjustment is carried out to reduce only when the necessary reduction extends to some extent. Consequently, since the number of times of zoom adjustment is reduced while a projection image is always projected slightly larger than the proper size, it becomes possible to control the degradation of image quality while being able to correct the projected image by reducing only on the occasion of a subsequent keystone distortion correction.
