PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable organic EL element without a leakage current at light emission drive, and a method of manufacturing the organic EL element. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescent element having at least a first electrode, an organic compound layer including a light-emitting layer, a second electrode, and a sealing member on a substrate in this order, this is the organic electroluminescent element in which the angle of the edge of the surface opposed to the second electrode of the first electrode is 0 to 80°in the direction opposite to the opposing face of the second electrode by assuming a surface horizontal face of the first electrode as the reference.
