PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that dots are not properly used in consideration of ink duty limitation in a printer capable of forming dots different in density and diameter. SOLUTION: The printer has two kinds of ink including dark and light tones for at least one color and a head capable of forming large diameter dots and small diameter dots. On the basis of image data input, the printer sets the quantity of ink per unit area to be discharged for each color by tables having a correlation to ensure that the ink duty limitation is conformed to. Subsequently the way of generating dots different in diameter is determined to ensure that the quantity of ink actually discharged approximates to the set ink quantity, thereby enabling appropriate use of dots different in density and diameter while conforming to the ink duty limitation.
