PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize a waste toner tank, regarding an image forming apparatus equipped with a plurality of image forming parts, and where unwanted toner on a transfer belt or an intermediate transfer belt is collected by a cleaning apparatus via a photoreceptor drum. SOLUTION: A CPU 50 selects the photoreceptor drum, to which the residual toner on the transfer belt 8, should be collected based on image data. Regarding the process cartridge wherein the integrated value of the used toner quantity obtained by the image data is more than a fixed quantity, the residual toner on the transfer belt 8 is not collected. A failure is prevented where the residual toner is collected locally in the waste toner tank in the specified process cartridge, and consequently, a plurality of waste toner tanks are utilized effectively.
