A method and apparatus for encoding/decoding image data are provided to prevent a delay generated when an image is decoded by generating and encoding bit streams block by block and restoring an image block by block when image data is encoded and decoded using residue color conversion. A method of encoding image data includes a step of dividing the image data into blocks, and a step of entropy-encoding the image data block by block so as to generate bit streams. The encoding method further includes a step of performing residue color conversion on the image data. A method of decoding image data includes a step of receiving bit streams, and a step of entropy-decoding the bit streams block by block so as to restore the image data composed of blocks. The decoding method further includes a step of carrying out residue color conversion on the restored image data block by block.
